Rumors claim Apple iPhone 5 will have a smaller screen and a metal back

There have been lots of rumors about the next generation of iPhone. Regardless it’ll be an iPhone 4S or an Apple iPhone 5, every one of us is expecting that the next-gen iPhone will be better than what the current iPhone 4 is. Surprisingly, the latest rumors claim that the Apple iPhone 5 will have smaller screen of 3.7 inches, regardless we’ve been seeing a number of smartphones packing larger 4.5-inch screens recently.

The rumors are from a pretty reliable source, the Taiwanese news site Digitimes, which has an above average record of getting all these things right. Other than the smaller 3.7-inch screen, the rumors also claim that the Apple iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S will come with a metal back that replaces the existing fragile glass of the iPhone 4, which many users have accidentally damaged.

If the rumors are true, the smaller 3.7-inch screen is definitely unacceptable for most users. Unless you’re someone who prefers a smaller or more pocketable device that will still maintain the same or better capability of an iPhone 4.

But most users these days are dependent on their smartphones for 3D multimedia contents and gaming, a smaller screen will be a major hindrance for most users.

Of course, it’ll just be this time next month we’ll know the exact specs, pricing and availability of the next-gen iPhone. There were also some rumors claiming that Apple would eventually release two versions of the next-gen iPhone which would be iPhone 4S and Apple iPhone 5. The iPhone 4S was said to be just a slightly enhanced version of the current iPhone 4. While the Apple iPhone 5 would be a complete redesign, bringing you more excitements.

If the next-gen iPhone will finally come out as what the rumors claim, then you’d better save your pocket, stick to your existing iPhone 4 or grab any of the upcoming LTE Android smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Nexus Prime that will soon be arriving on many operators near you including Sprint, Verizon by the end of the year.

Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 2 to use dual CDMA/GSM Qualcomm chipsets

According to Engadget, they’ve got reliable sources telling that the next generation iPhone and iPad, which are the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 2 respectively, will use Qualcoom chipsets instead of the Infineon chipsets used in the GSM version of iPhone 4.

The recently announced Verizon iPhone 4 (CDMA) also uses the Qualcomm chipset. The move to using Qualcomm chipsets allows the Apple iPhone 5 and iPad 2 to be able to ride on both CDMA and GSM networks, which means they’ll be carried by both Verizon and AT&T.

iPad 2 – The currently known information about the iPad 2 is it’ll be a thinner and sleeker tablet which will come equipped with the iPhone 4′s Retina Display with super high resolution (currently unknown) and the screen size will remain as 10 inches. The iPad 2 will also come equipped with an SD card slot that’s missing and been complained a lot in the first-gen of iPad. Unfortunately, there will still be no USB slot for the iPad 2. And the iPad 2 will adopt the dual CDMA/GSM Qualcomm chipset which will probably let AT&T and Verizon offer the iPad 2 at the same time. The iPad 2 is said to likely be out sometime in April 2011, which matches the 12-month product cycle of Apple.

Apple iPhone 5 – The Apple iPhone 5 will be a completely redesigned handset which currently has very little info. It’s said to be a total redesign and running atop the Apple’s new A5 CPU (a Cortex A9-based, multi-core chip). And similar to the iPad 2, it’ll use the Qualcom chipset that offers triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor. At the moment, there is no indication whether it’ll have LTE support. The Apple iPhone 5 is also said to be on track for a summer launch this year.

Other than the new generations of iPhone and iPad, Apple is also said to be working on the next generation of Apple TV, which involves a redesign and the use of the new A5 processor, which is super fast and capable of handling full HD 1080p video.

Apple iPhone 5 to come with a larger 4-inch display?

 Apple iPhone 5 is one of the most anticipated mobile devices for the year of 2011. And it’s been expected to be announced sometime this summer. So, it’s time for a number of speculations about its specs to start surfacing. A recently leaked photo shows the new iPhone’s digitizer panel, suggests that the Apple iPhone 5 will have a screen larger than 3.5-inches, and likely be a 4-inch display.

Although the Apple iPhone 5 will come with a larger display but the entire phone will not look any bigger than the current model, as it’ll have a much thinner bezel around its display. The above picture shows a mock-up of an Apple iPhone 5 is compared side by side to an iPhone 4.

In addition to the larger display, other goodies that you’d get from the Apple iPhone 5 are a dual-core processor, NFC and an 8-megapixel camera from Sony. There are also different words for its release dates including it could be hitting the shelves as early as June or a possible delay till September 2011.

There are lots of rumors surfacing for the upcoming generation of iPhone, the Apple iPhone 5. MIC gadget has got an image of a white Apple iPhone 5 which looks more legitimate than another mock-up that emerged earlier.

What’s shown in the picture above, the white Apple iPhone 5 has a larger screen and an edge-to-edge screen which shows some consistency with earlier leaked Apple iPhone 5′s front-panel. Picture below also shows you a comparison of the white Apple iPhone 5′s front panel with the unofficial white Apple iPhone 4′s panel.

No one can confirm what’s pictured is really the white Apple iPhone 5. It could be just a prototype of the white iPhone 4s which Apple’s reportedly been sending to developments.
